Teodoro Baù
viola da gamba

Programme

The viola da gamba course is open to all levels and does not require an entrance examination.

The participation of each student in the lessons of the other students is encouraged, since technical elements may emerge from each lesson that may be of interest to all course participants. Within the timetable, there will be some spaces reserved for group lessons, where topics that may emerge during the lessons, or from questions from individual students, will be addressed together: specifics regarding instrument technique, the method for autonomous, efficient and productive study, instrument maintenance (how to change a string, how to change the bindings, how to avoid problems with the pegs), or many other topics.

Bio

"One to watch" for Gramophone magazine, Teodoro Baù is a winner of international competitions including MA Competition Bruges (2021) and Bach-Abel Wettbewerb Köthen (2015).

His recording debut, published by Ricercar and containing sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli in an original transcription for viola da gamba, won several prizes and awards including the Diapason d'Or and the Choc de Classica.

Born in Italy, he began studying viola da gamba with Claudia Pasetto and continued in Basel and Salzburg. He also studied lute with Massimo Lonardi.

Teodoro lives in Basel and in recent years alternates between solo and chamber music activities; he is a member of the ensemble 'La Fonte Musica' in which he plays the ars subtilior repertoire with the medieval Viella.

He teaches viola da gamba at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg.
