Programme

Prepare at least two complete sonatas in different styles, e.g. Handel and Hotteterre. Other chamber music scores with oboe obbligato are welcome. It is essential to have the necessary reed-making material with you. The course takes place mainly on the diapason la = 415 Hz. It is also possible to have lessons with the classical oboe at la = 430 Hz.

Bio

Born in Rome in 1961, he moved to the Netherlands in 1981 to specialise in baroque oboe and early music with, among others, Bruce Haynes and Ku Ebbinge. In 1987 he obtained his soloist diploma at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He has participated in concerts in all European countries, the United States of America, Russia, Canada, Japan, China, Israel, Egypt, South America and Australia, as a member or guest soloist of prestigious baroque orchestras such as Hesperion XX, Le Concert des Nations, La Petite Bande, Das Freiburger Barockorchester, The English Concert, Bach Collegium Japan, The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and others. In 1989 he founded Zefiro together with his brothers Paolo and Alberto Grazzi, an ensemble where wind instruments play a prominent role. He has participated in around 100 recordings. Among others, his CD with Vivaldi's oboe concertos was awarded the Cannes Classic Award 1995 and Zefiro's CD with Handel's Royal Firework Music was recognised with the Diapason d'or of the year 2009. In addition to leading Zefiro in orchestral training, he has been guest conductor of baroque orchestras in Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Holland, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Israel, Australia, Canada and the European Union Baroque Orchestra. In January 2013, he was assessor and conductor of the first baroque orchestra project of Venezuela's 'Sistema de Musica'. His research on the history of wind instruments has resulted in several articles for international specialist journals. From 1992 to 2015 he was a lecturer at the Amsterdam Conservatory, from 2002 to 2007 at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya and since 2014 he has been a professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He is also a guest lecturer at several other conservatories and summer courses in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Israel, the United States, etc.
